President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Saturday, marking one of the most forceful rebukes yet of the Georgia conservative who was once among his closest allies.
In a post on Truth Social, the president labeled the congresswoman a “Republican in Name Only” and accused her of abandoning the party.
“Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown (Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!), betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left, performed poorly on the pathetic View, and became the RINO that we all know she always was,” Trump wrote.
He continued by comparing her to other lawmakers he has criticised.
“Just another Fake politician, no different than Rand Paul Jr. (Thomas Massie), who got caught being a full fledged Republican In Name Only (RINO)! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
Dispute Follows Trump’s Withdrawn Endorsement
The comments came one day after Trump revoked his endorsement of Greene and hinted he would support a primary challenger.
Greene responded early Saturday in a lengthy online statement, arguing the dispute stemmed from her involvement in a discharge petition urging the Department of Justice to release all files related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are.
And it truly speaks for itself,” she wrote on X.
“There needs to be a new way forward.”
Greene Splits From Trump Over Epstein Records
Greene was one of four Republicans who signed the petition, defying Trump’s objections.
She said the president’s attempt to stop Republicans from addressing the matter amounted to a political “huge miscalculation.”
The disagreement comes as new files tied to the Epstein case were released this week by House Democrats and the GOP-led Oversight Committee.
These included leaked emails alleging Trump had greater knowledge of Epstein’s activities involving underage girls than he previously indicated.
Trump has denied the claims and has asked the Justice Department to investigate Democrats’ connections to Epstein.
Broader Policy Divides Emerge
The clash also coincides with Greene’s ongoing criticism of several Trump-backed policies.
She has been vocal about rising affordability concerns across the U.S., including the recent government shutdown that temporarily halted Affordable Care Act tax credits and caused disruptions to SNAP assistance.
She has also broken with Trump on foreign policy, most notably U.S. aid to Israel and Ukraine.
In a post on Saturday, Greene shared an image showing she had received no contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
“This and the Epstein files is why I’m being attacked by President Trump,” she wrote.
“It really makes you wonder what is in those files and who and what country is putting so much pressure on him?”
Trump Calls Greene a “Traitor”
Despite the escalating rhetoric, Greene said she does not hold hostility toward the president.
“I forgive him and I will pray for him to return to his original MAGA promises,” she wrote.
Trump later doubled down, writing on Truth Social, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”
