BOC Aviation Places Largest-Ever Pratt & Whitney Order With Deal For Up To 220 GTF Engines (RTX)

BOC Aviation Limited (HKEx: 2588) has confirmed an order for up to 220 Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power as many as 110 Airbus (AIR.PA) A320neo family aircraft.

The deal represents the largest order BOC Aviation has ever placed with Pratt & Whitney, underscoring the deepening relationship between the aircraft lessor and the RTX (NYSE: RTX) business unit.

The order was originally signed and listed as an undisclosed deal in June 2025, with the public confirmation arriving at the Farnborough International Airshow in London.

Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, welcomed the announcement as a vote of confidence in the GTF engine platform.

“With this latest order, BOC Aviation is demonstrating its continued confidence in the GTF, which is the most fuel-efficient engine for single aisle aircraft,” Deurloo said.

“We have a strong relationship with BOC Aviation that we will continue to build upon to meet growing airline demand,” he added.

Steven Townend, chief executive officer and managing director at BOC Aviation, described the transaction as a milestone in a nearly three-decade partnership.

“This order is the largest that BOC Aviation has placed with Pratt & Whitney and a continuation of our 29-year relationship, reflecting the key role they have played in our growth,” Townend said.

Townend also highlighted the operational advantages the engines bring to the company’s expanding fleet, stating that “GTF engines enable a substantial reduction in fuel costs, contributing to the efficiency of our future fleet.”

The GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the prior generation of engines, according to the company.

More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently operated globally by over 90 customers, and an order backlog exceeding 8,000 engines reflects sustained market demand for the technology.

BOC Aviation currently maintains a portfolio of 813 aircraft and engines owned, managed, and on order, with its owned and managed fleet leased to 88 airlines across 48 countries and regions.

The Singapore-headquartered company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and maintains offices in Dublin, London, New York, and Tianjin.

RTX, the parent company of Pratt & Whitney, is the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, reporting 2025 sales of more than $88 billion and employing over 185,000 people globally.
