RTX (NYSE: RTX) subsidiary Pratt & Whitney has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tigerair Taiwan to power 15 Airbus A321neo aircraft with GTF engines.
The agreement covers four firm aircraft and 11 leased aircraft, extending a partnership that dates back to the airline’s founding in 2014.
Tigerair Taiwan currently operates nine Airbus A320neo family aircraft already powered by GTF engines, alongside nine Airbus A320ceos equipped with IAE V2500 engines.
Pratt & Whitney will also provide maintenance services under a 12-year EngineWise Comprehensive services agreement, designed to ensure predictable maintenance costs and optimal operational efficiency.
Aircraft deliveries under the new agreement are expected to begin in 2028, supporting the airline’s next phase of regional expansion across Asia.
“This latest GTF order reaffirms Tigerair Taiwan’s trust in Pratt & Whitney, which exclusively powers the airline’s fleet,” said Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines, Pratt & Whitney.
Deurloo added that “the GTF engine will continue to enable Tigerair Taiwan’s regional fleet expansion while delivering best-in-class fuel efficiency.”
Joyce Huang, chairperson of Tigerair Taiwan, highlighted the strength of the longstanding relationship between the two companies in her own remarks.
“Pratt & Whitney has been a trusted partner since we began operations in 2014,” said Huang, adding that the new A321neo fleet “will advance our next phase of growth, as we continue to serve more passengers across more destinations with a lower cost per seat.”
The GTF engine delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the prior generation of engines, according to Pratt & Whitney.
More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently operated globally by over 90 customers, reflecting strong and sustained market demand for the technology.
An order backlog of over 8,000 GTF engines further underscores the commercial momentum behind the platform as airlines prioritize fuel efficiency and lower operating costs.
RTX, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, reported 2025 sales of more than $88 billion and employs more than 180,000 people across its global operations.
