After developing his skillset with long hours in the law library, Russell Nicolet built his law practice, seeking to represent people after tough injuries and accidents.
Russell Nicolet started Nicolet Law with one person and one goal. Employing only himself, he simply wanted to use the skills he earned as a first-generation law student to help others. Now, his founding practice, Nicolet Law, extends across three states and employs dozens of people, while staying true to Nicolet’s original mission.
First Employee and First Generation
Russell Nicolet was the first person in his family to attend law school and become a lawyer. He says of the experience, “I didn’t know what to expect, and I didn’t really know how to make it all work. I just went for it, and then did the same when I started my own law office.”
Being the first in his family to go to law school was difficult for Nicolet. He relied on his hunger for knowledge and improvement to propel him through. By focusing on building his skills and knowledge, he developed valuable mentorships and found early champions for him that he says, “were kind enough to give [him] a hand.”
As a young attorney, he spent a significant amount of time in the Washington County Law Library, researching and gathering information to make sure that when he opened his practice, he was a capable practitioner for his clients.
It was here that his drive for client support came about. Pouring over books and information in the law library, Nicolet decided he was going to be the one to solve his client’s problems, helping them get better and making a difference in their lives.
Pride in the Work With Commitment to the People
Nicolet Law is a multi-state practice, an impressive expansion. Nicolet has demonstrated he is persistent and willing to go the distance required to grow a law practice in the Midwest, but he is most proud of the people he now has the opportunity to work with.
He says, “I am most proud of the excellent folks that work here who come in day after day to fight for the hard-working people and families in the Midwest that need our help.” Finding like-minded people has bolstered the Nicolet Law practice into the business it is today.
But the struggle, the mission that enables these practitioners to get up day after day and do what they do, is about more than pride. It is an unwavering commitment to the people they serve.
Nicolet claims, “Everyone that works here feels and understands that what we do is not only a job, but a calling to help, serve, and stand up for those that need it most.”
Serving the Midwest
For his work, Nicolet has received several accolades. He has been awarded the Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyers and recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association Top 100 Trial Lawyers. He has also been named a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine.
What Nicolet takes the most satisfaction from in his career is the outcomes he claims to have achieved for the people he has represented. He says, “I have settled and taken cases to verdict which include some of the largest amounts awarded in those counties.”
He works hard for the people who employ him, but Nicolet also pays it forward to the lawyers he employs at his firm. Guiding and supporting his fellow practitioners as they obtain “outstanding settlements and verdicts,” he describes as a privilege.
Looking to the Future
Russell Nicolet and Nicolet Law will continue their work representing injured Midwesterners and obtaining settlements to the best of their ability. Nicolet hopes to see Nicolet Law expand further, growing to help more and more hard-working people with unfortunate accidents and injuries.
