S&P 500 Futures ($GSPC) Slip As Surging PMI Data Clouds Federal Reserve Rate Outlook

US stock futures opened Tuesday in negative territory, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts declining roughly 0.1% as investors processed mixed signals from the economy.

Strong business activity data complicated the picture for markets, with the flash Composite PMI for August coming in at 56, while the services PMI registered an even stronger 56.8.

Those readings point to solid and sustained demand across a wide range of sectors, from travel and hospitality to professional services and beyond.

At the same time, the US 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.71%, offering some relief to borrowers and easing pressure on rate-sensitive corners of the market.

The central tension for investors remains how aggressively the Federal Reserve will move on interest rates given the persistence of strong economic momentum heading into the fall.

Rate-sensitive sectors including banks, real estate, and smaller domestic companies face particular uncertainty as the Fed weighs its next steps against a backdrop of resilient demand.
