Electronic Warfare Boom Puts L3Harris (LHX) In Position For Long-Term Growth

L3Harris Technologies (LHX) is expanding its footprint in the electronic warfare market as global defense spending rises and demand for advanced aircraft protection intensifies.

Electronic warfare capabilities have become essential to modern air operations, helping military aircraft detect, disrupt, and counter enemy radars, missiles, and other electronic threats.

In August 2026, L3Harris secured a new opportunity to provide its Viper Shield electronic warfare system for Peru’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft program.

Viper Shield functions as digital armor for aircraft, enabling pilots to counter enemy radars, missiles, and a wide range of electronic threats in contested environments.

Peru’s purchase is expected to enhance the offensive and defensive capabilities of its new F-16 fleet while improving interoperability with other nations operating the F-16 Block 70.

The latest selection reflects the growing global adoption of Viper Shield, with eight nations now having chosen the platform as L3Harris ramps toward full-rate production of 233 systems.

L3Harris developed Viper Shield in partnership with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force, giving the program strong institutional backing and a broad operational foundation.

The system can be integrated into F-16 Block 70/72 aircraft, retrofitted onto earlier F-16 variants, or deployed through an external pod for greater flexibility.

Its software-defined and upgradeable design is intended to allow its capabilities to evolve alongside rapidly changing and increasingly sophisticated threat environments.

Rising investments in electronic warfare and growing demand for advanced aircraft protection should create solid growth opportunities for L3Harris going forward.

The expanding adoption of Viper Shield, combined with L3Harris’s broader capabilities in communications and spectrum dominance, is likely to support its long-term growth trajectory.

Other major defense contractors are also capitalizing on the surge in electronic warfare investment across global defense budgets.

RTX Corporation (RTX), through its Raytheon business, develops technologies designed to detect, disrupt, and counter evolving electronic threats across multiple platforms and domains.

BAE Systems (BAESY) also maintains a strong presence in electronic warfare through advanced systems used to protect military aircraft and other critical defense platforms.

On a valuation basis, LHX shares are trading at a forward 12-month Price/Sales ratio of 1.98X, a notable discount compared to the industry average of 2.47X.

Shares of LHX have declined 5.2% over the past year, slightly underperforming the broader industry’s 3.9% decline during the same period.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for LHX’s 2026 earnings has moved higher over the past 60 days, signaling improving analyst sentiment around the company’s near-term prospects.

LHX currently carries a Zacks Rank of 3, which translates to a Hold rating under the firm’s stock classification system.
