S&P 500 (SPY) And Dow (DIA) Break Three-Day Losing Streak As Oil Steadies Near $90, MSFT, DELL, UBER, ASTS, AVGO Move Markets

U.S. stock indices finished Wednesday on a positive note after oil prices halted their advance, giving investors reason to reassess inflation risks and rate hike prospects.

The S&P 500 (SPY) closed 0.5% higher, the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) added 0.2%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA) gained 0.6% on the session.

Dell Technologies (DELL) led S&P 500 gainers with a 16% surge, marking its strongest single-day performance since May 29 following a $25 billion upward revision to its annual revenue guidance.

The Russell 2000, which tracks small-cap stocks, rose approximately 1%, reflecting broader market participation beyond large-cap technology names.

West Texas Intermediate crude stabilized near the $90-a-barrel level as Treasury yields retreated, easing some pressure that had weighed on equities earlier in the week.

“The key driver is oil,” said Jay Hatfield, CEO of Infrastructure Capital Advisors, speaking to CNBC. “That’s why the market is able to get a little rally today, because oil’s topping out.”

Hatfield also noted that the market remains range-bound during a seasonally weak period, suggesting near-term volatility is likely to persist for investors.

Escalating friction between the U.S. and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz disrupted a brief lull in hostilities this week, sparking a sudden jump in energy costs and stoking fears of prolonged conflict.

The Federal Reserve’s August 2026 Beige Book, released Wednesday, showed U.S. economic activity expanded at a modest pace from early July through late August, supported by steady manufacturing orders and strong demand for data center infrastructure.
