RTX Corporation (RTX) is deepening its foothold in military aviation as the U.S. Army pushes forward with plans to modernize and sustain its helicopter fleet.
Through its Collins Aerospace business, RTX secured a contract worth up to $472 million to provide engineering services supporting the modernization and sustainment of the CH-47 Chinook fleet.
The contract will support avionics upgrades designed to integrate new capabilities, address obsolete systems and strengthen the Chinook’s avionics architecture.
These upgrades are expected to maintain the fleet’s mission readiness while enabling the Army to incorporate new technologies more efficiently across its aviation platforms.
The award also supports greater commonality across the Army’s aviation fleet through the use of open and reusable avionics architectures, which can reduce integration complexity.
Such systems can be integrated across multiple aircraft, helping improve cost and schedule efficiency as the Army continues its broader aviation modernization push.
The contract highlights Collins Aerospace’s longstanding relationship with the U.S. Army and its established role in providing advanced avionics solutions for military aircraft.
RTX shares have surged 30.2% over the past year, significantly outperforming the industry, which has declined 7% during the same period.
The company’s stock is trading at a relative discount, with its forward 12-month Price/Earnings ratio at 26.44X compared with its industry’s average of 30.76X.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for RTX’s 2026 and 2027 earnings has moved higher over the past 60 days, and RTX stock currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
Other defense companies are also positioned to benefit from military aviation modernization, including Lockheed Martin (LMT), whose Sikorsky business supports the Army’s helicopter fleet.
Boeing (BA) remains another key player, with its Defense, Space and Security business supporting the U.S. military through helicopters, aircraft and related sustainment services.
With the U.S. military focused on extending service lives of existing aircraft while preparing them for evolving operational requirements, RTX is well-positioned for sustained demand in advanced avionics.
