RSM UK Brings In Veteran Auditor Chris Mayo To Lead Financial Services Risk Practice In London

RSM UK, an audit, tax and consulting firm, has appointed Chris Mayo as a partner to strengthen its financial services risk and governance team.

Mayo will take the lead on the firm’s financial services internal audit business across London and the South East, a key growth market for the practice.

The firm says Mayo will help clients navigate regulatory change, strengthen risk management frameworks, and support sustainable business growth over the long term.

Mayo brings more than 20 years of experience across the financial services sector, spanning both in-house and advisory roles at major institutions.

He previously served as head of audit quality, methods and platform at Lloyds Banking Group, one of the United Kingdom’s largest retail and commercial banks.

Mayo also held the role of group chief internal auditor at Shawbrook Bank, giving him deep hands-on experience running internal audit functions at the executive level.

Earlier in his career, he held senior positions at Deloitte and EY, advising financial institutions on governance, assurance, and internal audit transformation programs.

Mayo said: “The best assurance functions don’t just identify risk; they help organisations make better decisions, respond confidently to change and support long-term success.”

He added: “I look forward to working with new clients at RSM, helping them to build governance and assurance that goes beyond meeting regulatory requirements by adding real value to the business.”

RSM UK risk and governance head Alex Tait welcomed the hire, calling it a significant addition to the firm’s specialist team serving financial services clients.

Tait said: “Chris’ appointment is a real coup for the firm’s financial services risk and governance team.”

He continued: “His blend of in-house experience and understanding of the advisory landscape place him in a strong position to support clients with navigating the ever-evolving regulatory landscape of financial services and implementing effective risk management frameworks.”

The appointment continues a period of active expansion for RSM UK, which has been building out its advisory capabilities across multiple practice areas throughout 2026.

Earlier this year, RSM UK bolstered its debt advisory offering by appointing George Fieldhouse and Alex Dugay as partners, signaling continued investment in senior talent acquisition.
