D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) Adds BNP Paribas Technology Veteran Bernard Gavgani To Its Board Of Directors

D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) has appointed financial technology executive Bernard Gavgani to its Board of Directors and Cybersecurity Committee, the company announced Monday.

D-Wave describes itself as the only dual-platform quantum computing company offering both annealing and gate-model systems, software, and services.

Gavgani currently serves as Senior Advisor for Technology and Innovation to BNP Paribas (BNP.PA) Group Executive Management, following his tenure as Group Chief Information Officer of the global banking giant.

He joins D-Wave’s Board in a personal capacity, bringing experience across global technology strategy, operational transformation, artificial intelligence governance, cybersecurity, and network modernization.

Before his role as group CIO, Gavgani served as chief operating officer for information technology and operations within BNP Paribas corporate and institutional banking.

Earlier in his career at BNP Paribas, he held senior leadership positions spanning capital markets, equity derivatives, technology, operations, and the bank’s general inspection function.

“I’m thrilled to join the D-Wave board at a time of rapid growth and opportunity for the company,” Gavgani said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

“Having served as a CIO, I understand the practical requirements for bringing emerging technologies into the enterprise – from integrating with existing systems to delivering measurable business value,” he added.

Sharon Holt, chair of the D-Wave board, highlighted Gavgani’s regulatory and risk management background as a key asset for the company’s long-term direction.

“Bernard brings decades of experience making critical technology decisions within a highly regulated global enterprise,” Holt said, noting his cybersecurity and large-scale transformation expertise.

Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, said Gavgani’s enterprise-scale perspective would strengthen the company’s ability to deliver value to its growing customer base.

“His insights will be invaluable as we build on our technology foundation and expand the value we deliver to customers,” Baratz said.

D-Wave counts more than 100 organizations across commercial, government, and research sectors among the customers relying on its quantum computing platforms.

The company offers enterprise-grade quantum systems both on-premises and through its Leap quantum cloud service, which the company says maintains 99.9% availability and uptime.
