Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is launching a new political action committee, intensifying speculation that he is laying the groundwork for a future presidential run.
The committee, named New Path PAC, has already established a public-facing website outlining its political mission and goals.
According to the website, the PAC is dedicated to electing candidates who will oppose President Trump and his administration’s agenda.
“New Path PAC will help Governor Josh Shapiro build a movement to get citizens to rise up, demand more, and elect candidates who will put a check on Donald Trump and JD Vance’s chaos, cruelty, and corruption,” the website states.
Shapiro is widely considered one of several potential Democratic presidential candidates for 2028, with his national profile growing steadily.
His strong approval numbers in Pennsylvania have boosted his standing among Democratic Party insiders looking for a viable future standard-bearer.
A Quinnipiac University poll found Shapiro’s job approval rating sitting at 62 percent, an unusually strong figure for any governor in today’s polarized political environment.
Before any presidential ambitions can be pursued, however, Shapiro must first win reelection as governor of Pennsylvania this November.
Polls consistently show him holding a commanding lead, with the Quinnipiac survey placing him 26 points ahead of his Republican opponent, 60 percent to 34 percent, among likely voters.
Nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ gives Shapiro a 95 percent chance of winning reelection, signaling that his path back to the governor’s office appears largely secure.
Despite the favorable electoral outlook, Shapiro is already fielding pointed questions about whether his gubernatorial ambitions might be eclipsed by larger national goals.
During an October 7 debate against Republican opponent Stacy Garrity, the Pennsylvania state treasurer, moderators pressed Shapiro on whether he would commit to serving a full four-year term if reelected.
The question underscored the extent to which his political future has become a central topic of conversation even before a single vote is cast in the governor’s race.
The launch of New Path PAC is likely to keep those questions alive, as Democrats across the country assess their options for recapturing the White House in 2028.
