D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) Partners With Nasdaq Verafin To Fight Financial Crime Using Quantum Computing

D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) and Nasdaq Verafin have announced a new agreement aimed at exploring quantum computing’s role in detecting financial crime.

The partnership will focus on developing quantum-hybrid machine learning applications designed to identify fraud, scams, and money laundering with greater precision.

D-Wave, the only dual-platform quantum computing company offering both annealing and gate-model systems, will provide its core technology for the collaboration.

The two organizations will begin with a proof-of-concept project, with the potential to expand into full pilot applications targeting key anti-financial crime use cases.

Nasdaq Verafin will leverage D-Wave’s annealing quantum computing technology to surface complex relationships across account activity, transaction patterns, and counterparty networks.

Conventional detection approaches often miss subtle behavioral signals, and the quantum-hybrid model aims to address that gap by analyzing hundreds of potential data points simultaneously.

The initial proof-of-concept will apply D-Wave’s technology to strengthen predictive models specifically designed to flag unusual account behavior before losses occur.

“This agreement with Nasdaq Verafin provides an important opportunity to explore quantum computing’s potential in addressing some of the financial services sector’s most complex problems,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave.

“By applying D-Wave’s quantum-hybrid technology to machine learning and other application development efforts, Nasdaq Verafin is reinforcing its role as a technology-forward organization helping shape the future of financial services innovation,” Baratz added.

Nasdaq Verafin currently serves more than 2,800 financial institutions, representing $13 trillion in collective assets, with its Financial Crime Management Technology solutions.

The platform covers fraud detection, AML/CFT compliance, high-risk customer management, sanctions screening, and information sharing across the financial sector.

D-Wave has positioned itself as the world’s first commercial supplier of quantum computers and continues to expand its enterprise-grade offerings through both on-premises systems and its Leap quantum cloud service.

More than 100 organizations across commercial, government, and research sectors currently rely on D-Wave to address complex computational challenges using quantum computing technology.

The partnership signals a growing industry push to bring quantum-powered tools into financial crime prevention, a space where speed and pattern recognition are critical to stopping bad actors.
