Attorney General Todd Blanche is scheduled to address reporters in the White House Rose Garden on Tuesday in a notable moment for the administration.
Blanche becomes the latest senior official to step into a press briefing role following former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s recent departure.
A White House official confirmed to NewsNation, The Hill’s sister network, that Blanche will speak directly to members of the press.
The briefing comes just a day after Blanche joined Vice President Vance in Missouri to announce federal action against suspects tied to COVID-19 era small business relief fraud.
Federal authorities alleged that those targeted had stolen millions from taxpayers through the pandemic-era relief program, making the case a high-profile enforcement priority for the Justice Department.
The Rose Garden appearance follows a broader pattern of senior administration officials filling the void left by Leavitt’s exit from the press secretary role at the end of last month.
Vice President Vance addressed reporters inside the White House press briefing room eleven days ago, marking the first such briefing since July and the first since Leavitt’s departure.
Trump told reporters on Sunday that he “may have” developed a short list of candidates to fill the vacant press secretary position on a permanent basis.
During Leavitt’s maternity leave earlier this year, officials including Vance, Rubio, and Bessent each took turns briefing reporters in her absence, establishing a precedent for shared press duties.
Blanche, whom the Senate confirmed to the full-time attorney general post last month, separately told CBS News on Monday that the federal government will continue releasing records related to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
His confirmation to the permanent attorney general role gives Blanche added weight as a spokesperson, elevating Tuesday’s Rose Garden briefing beyond a routine press appearance.
The administration has yet to formally name a replacement for Leavitt, leaving senior cabinet members and officials to manage press relations in the interim period.
