Barclays Turns Bullish On Lumentum (LITE), Sees 36% Upside After Sharp Pullback

Shares of Lumentum Holdings (LITE) surged more than 9% on Monday after Barclays upgraded the optical and photonic technologies maker to a bullish stance.

Barclays lifted its rating on LITE to Overweight from Equal Weight, maintaining a $1,000 price target that implies roughly 36% upside from Friday’s closing price.

The upgrade comes after LITE shares pulled back approximately 18% over the past three months, creating what Barclays views as a more attractive entry point for investors.

Barclays analyst Tom O’Malley noted that “LITE underperformed the [SOXX ETF] by ~40% in the last 3 months and has seen multiple compression on the thesis that scale-up [co-packaged optics] is somehow pushed out.”

O’Malley pushed back firmly on those concerns, stating, “Nothing has changed…The underlying fundamentals remain strong for transceiver/laser demand, and we like the risk/reward on the pullback.”

Barclays cited expanding gross margins, improved factory utilization, idiosyncratic pricing benefits, and stronger operational performance relative to peers as key drivers of its upgraded outlook.

Despite the recent three-month slide, LITE shares remain up nearly 100% year to date, sharply outperforming the S&P 500’s 8.9% gain over the same period.

Over the past 12 months, the stock has delivered a staggering 677% return, cementing Lumentum’s reputation as one of the standout performers in the AI infrastructure supply chain.

Citi analyst Papa Sylla added further momentum to the bullish case, reiterating a Buy rating and $1,100 price target while opening a 90-day upside catalyst watch on the stock.

Sylla flagged the June-quarter earnings print and an upcoming European optical communications conference in September as events likely to confirm favorable pricing dynamics and technology leadership.

Lumentum is scheduled to report its fiscal fourth-quarter results on August 11, a date that investors and analysts are watching closely for signs of continued demand strength.

According to data from Koyfin, 20 of the 25 analysts covering LITE rate it Buy or Strong Buy, while five rate it Hold, with a 12-month average price target of $1,104.89.

Monday’s rally also reflected a broader sector tailwind, with optical communication peers including Coherent, Corning, Ciena, Credo Technology, and Applied Optoelectronics all rising alongside Lumentum in pre-market trading.
