British authorities arrested five men on Sunday suspected of planning an attack on RAF Fairford, a base in southwest England owned by the U.K. and operated by the United States.
London Metropolitan Police received an early morning call about three suspicious vehicles traveling toward the base, prompting the swift arrests of the five suspects.
The nationalities of the men taken into custody have not been made public, leaving key details about the alleged plotters still unknown.
RAF Fairford has served as a staging ground for American forces conducting strikes against Iranian missile sites, making it a strategically significant installation in the ongoing conflict.
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) described the base as the “forward deployment area of our assets” engaged in the Iran war, drawing a direct line between the base’s role and the suspected plot.
Cammack argued that Iran’s extensive proxy network made its involvement in the alleged plot highly plausible given the base’s operational history against Iranian targets.
“So it stands to reason that through the proxy network that Iran has of Hamas and Hezbollah, that they probably were in coordination on this front because as Iran has been very publicly saying, they are ready for more confrontation,” Cammack said.
She further emphasized that Iran has “always operated through their terror networks rather than facing threats head on,” suggesting the alleged plot fits a familiar pattern of Iranian-backed aggression.
President Trump, speaking to reporters in Chicago, praised British authorities and confirmed that American and U.K. governments had cooperated closely in monitoring and ultimately apprehending the suspects.
“They were looking to do big damage to our fort and working with the British worked out great. We had them under view for a long time and we got ’em,” Trump said, according to NewsNation’s Libbey Dean.
Cammack called the arrests a “testament to the relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom, highlighting the importance of the transatlantic intelligence partnership.
She also expressed that she was “grateful” for service members stationed at the base and for law enforcement officers who took a “proactive” stance in disrupting the alleged plot before any harm was done.
