Raytheon, a business unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has been awarded a five-year multi-year contract valued at up to $20.7 billion for production of AMRAAM missiles.
The contract includes two option years and was awarded under the Department of War’s Arsenal of Freedom initiative, a program designed to accelerate domestic munitions output.
The agreement follows a landmark deal between Raytheon and the Department of War announced earlier in 2026, which establishes a baseline of at least 1,900 AMRAAM missiles produced annually.
Raytheon President Phil Jasper emphasized the weapon system’s strategic importance to U.S. and allied defense operations around the world.
“AMRAAM remains the world’s most trusted, combat-proven air dominance weapon for the United States and our allies, delivering beyond-visual-range lethality with advanced guidance and electronic protection in contested environments,” Jasper said.
Jasper also pointed to the company’s ongoing infrastructure investments as central to meeting growing demand from military customers and international partners.
“We continue to make significant investments in our workforce, technology, supply chain and facilities to rapidly scale production capacity and meet surging demand from the U.S. Air Force, Navy and our international partners,” he added.
RTX nearly doubled AMRAAM production in 2025 compared to 2024, a milestone the company attributes to close collaboration with hundreds of small and mid-sized suppliers nationwide.
The company is also exploring international co-production arrangements as it works to scale output to meet long-term operational requirements across global markets.
Now in its fifth generation, AMRAAM operates on 14 platforms and has been fielded by 44 countries, logging more than 7,000 successful live fires in test and combat scenarios.
The missile has been upgraded with advanced processors that allow for agile software updates, enabling it to outpace current and future threats as battlefield technology continues to evolve.
AMRAAM also serves as the primary interceptor for the NASAMS air defense system, broadening its operational role well beyond traditional air-to-air combat missions.
RTX, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, employs more than 180,000 people globally and reported 2025 sales of more than $88 billion across its aviation and defense business segments.
