RTX Corporation (RTX) subsidiary Raytheon has secured a $511.5 million modification contract to purchase spares and exercise options for hardware production of the AN/SPY-6(V) family of radars.
The contract was awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., extending Raytheon’s role as a key supplier of advanced naval radar systems.
Work under the agreement will be carried out across multiple U.S. locations, including Andover, MA; San Diego, CA; Scottsdale, AZ; Syracuse, NY; Stafford Springs, CT; and Sykesville, MD.
The contract is expected to reach full completion by November 2031, spanning a multi-year production and support horizon for the Navy’s radar infrastructure.
RTX’s AN/SPY-6 is a family of integrated naval radars designed to simultaneously detect and engage ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles, hostile aircraft, and surface ships.
Compared with legacy systems, the SPY-6 radar offers greater detection range, higher sensitivity, and more accurate threat discrimination, making it a centerpiece of modern naval air defense.
The radar has been delivered and integrated across the Navy’s newest platforms, including DDG 51 Flight III destroyers, frigates, aircraft carriers, and amphibious warships, while also being backfit onto older DDG 51 Flight IIA vessels.
Rising geopolitical tensions and increased defense budgets are accelerating demand for military radar systems globally, with Mordor Intelligence projecting a CAGR of 5.2% for the military radar market during the 2026-2031 period.
RTX’s broader radar portfolio includes the AN/TPY-2, AN/APG-79, APG-82(V)1, and GhostEye MR systems, all of which compete actively in the expanding global military radar marketplace.
Other major defense contractors are also positioned to benefit from this growth, including Lockheed Martin (LMT), whose radar systems serve more than 45 nations and include the TPY-4, SPY-7, and Sentinel A4 platforms.
Northrop Grumman (NOC) brings more than 60 years of Active Electronically Scanned Array radar experience, with systems such as the AN/ZPY-5 VADER, AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR, and HAMMR supporting diverse defense missions.
L3Harris Technologies (LHX) rounds out the competitive field with its SPS-48 land-based surveillance radar, AN/APY-11 Multimode radar, and AN/SPS-48G Long Range 3D Surveillance radar serving air surveillance and defense roles.
