President Trump placed Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) front and center Wednesday as he unveiled a landmark $54 billion investment in an Alaska natural gas export project.
The Alaska LNG pipeline deal forms part of a sweeping $200 billion investment commitment from South Korea into the United States across multiple energy sectors.
Beyond the pipeline, the broader South Korean investment package includes eight nuclear power plants and a 6-gigawatt power generation facility in Texas.
Trump described the LNG pipeline as a “big” project, making the announcement from the Oval Office before a room that included Alaska officials and dignitaries.
“That’s why we have a lot of people from Alaska, including a very great governor and your great senator Dan Sullivan,” Trump said during the announcement.
Trump praised Sullivan directly, saying “he’s been working on this deal and other deals in Alaska…for almost 20 years,” framing the senator as a key architect of the agreement.
“So, I want to thank, in particular, Dan Sullivan for getting this deal done,” Trump added, singling out the senator for special recognition among those present.
Sullivan, responding to the praise, said he has worked “relentlessly” to bring the Alaska pipeline project to fruition over the course of his political career.
Trump used the occasion to take a sharp shot at another Republican Senate candidate in Alaska who shares the same name, calling him a “fake Sullivan” and warning supporters not to confuse the two.
“For five decades, politicians have talked about the Alaska pipeline. I’ve been hearing about it from the time I’m a little boy,” Trump said, adding, “I was always fascinated by it, but today, with the help of Senator Dan S. Sullivan, and don’t get it confused with anybody else. Remember, they put up a fake. It’s a fake Sullivan — guy knows nothing.”
Trump claimed Democrats were responsible for placing Dan J. Sullivan on the ballot, despite that candidate running as a Republican in the Alaska Senate race.
Both men named Dan Sullivan are running against Rep. Mary Peltola (D) in what has become an unusually crowded Alaska Senate contest.
Trump closed his remarks with a firm pledge of personal support for the incumbent senator, saying, “I will go to Alaska to help Dan Sullivan get elected.”
Sullivan has remained a consistent ally of the Trump administration, voting in line with Trump on every major issue that came before Congress in 2025.
