Rigetti Computing (RGTI) Trades At 410 Times Sales As Gate Fidelity Milestone Looms

Rigetti Computing (RGTI) sits roughly 71% below its 52-week high even after gaining 24.4% over the past month.

The stock’s price-to-sales ratio stands at 410.2, compared to just 3.3 for the S&P 500 index, a gap that demands explanation.

That multiple rests on only $13.4 million of trailing-twelve-month revenue, meaning the valuation prices an engineering future rather than a commercial present.

Rigetti sells cloud access to its Cepheus-1-108Q system and on-premises Novera QPU hardware primarily to national labs and universities.

Second-quarter 2026 revenue reached $5.1 million, up sharply from $1.8 million in the same period a year earlier, driven by on-premises Novera QPU sales.

An $8.4 million C-DAC order for a 108-qubit system in India, expected to be recognized in the fourth quarter of 2026, represents nearly two-thirds of the entire trailing-twelve-month revenue base.

Management acknowledges that revenue is shaped by the timing of system deliveries and government-funded projects, making the income stream resemble a delivery calendar more than a recurring business.

Cepheus-1-108Q is assembled from 12 interconnected 9-qubit chiplets, and management notes only three gate-based machines anywhere operate above 100 qubits: this one, IBM’s and Google’s.

Coherence times of 25 to 30 microseconds are, by the company’s own account, the primary limit on two-qubit gate fidelity today.

The chip design and materials work required to double or triple those coherence times is expected to play out over several years, setting the real pace for the company’s roughly three-year, 1,000-qubit roadmap.

Management targets a median two-qubit gate fidelity of approximately 99.5% on Cepheus-1-108Q later in 2026, up from roughly 99.1%, making that milestone the nearest test of whether the roadmap holds its dates.

The second-quarter of 2026 produced a $28.1 million operating loss, wider than the $19.9 million recorded a year earlier, as spending went into fabrication and refrigeration capacity.

Funding that loss is $541.3 million in cash, equivalents and available-for-sale investments at the end of June 2026, down from $569 million three months earlier, with no debt on the balance sheet.

A Department of Commerce letter of intent for up to $100 million over three years could extend near-term runway, though it remains non-binding and carries dilution via a government equity stake.

Rigetti also plans to deploy up to $100 million into the U.K. under its ProQure program across a multi-year horizon, meaning new government capital helps fund an expanding global footprint rather than simply reinforcing cash reserves.

Hitting the 99.5% fidelity target on schedule and converting the Commerce letter into a signed agreement are the two most immediate signals investors should watch for validation.

A single hardware delivery may temporarily lift the revenue line, but longer-term commercial credibility will depend on consistent roadmap execution and recurring system orders.

Holding one early-stage hardware name through a multi-year research cycle places a significant concentration of risk on a single position with a distant payoff horizon.
