Streaming Showdowns In June 2026: House Of The Dragon, The Bear, And Cape Fear Battle The World Cup

Streaming services are largely stepping back in June 2026, ceding primetime real estate to the FIFA World Cup, the most-watched sporting event on the planet.

A handful of major exceptions are mounting a challenge, including HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” Apple TV+’s “Cape Fear,” and Hulu’s “The Bear,” which each carry significant audience expectations heading into the month.

For the first time, English-language viewers in the United States can stream the entire soccer tournament in one place, with Fox One offering all 104 World Cup matches in 4K.

The tournament runs from June 11 through the final on July 19, with Fox One offering a three-day free trial before requiring a $19.99 monthly subscription.

Matches will also air on Fox and the FS1 cable channel, while Telemundo’s Spanish-language broadcasts of all matches can be streamed on Peacock as a cheaper alternative.

Apple TV+ debuts “Cape Fear” on June 5, starring Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as married attorneys and Javier Bardem as the revenge-seeking psychopath who believes they wrongfully helped imprison him.

The psychological thriller, based on a story twice adapted into acclaimed films, raises questions about whether a 10-episode series can deliver what a two-hour movie historically accomplished more cleanly.

On Hulu, FX’s “The Bear” returns June 25 for its fifth and final season, with Carmy, played by Jeremy Allen White, having handed the restaurant over to Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

A surprise episode that dropped in early May, searchable on Hulu under “Gary,” may throw a curveball into the show’s endgame, adding intrigue to an already high-stakes final run of eight episodes.

HBO Max brings back “House of the Dragon” on June 21 for its third season, two years after the second season aired, with the Targaryen civil war set to finally explode into full-scale action.

Showrunner Ryan Condal recently told Entertainment Weekly that the season premiere, built around the Battle of the Gullet, is “arguably the craziest episode of television ever made,” setting towering expectations.

The series is confirmed to conclude with Season 4, likely arriving in 2028, giving this third installment added weight as the story accelerates toward its endgame.

Netflix (NFLX) keeps a lower profile in June, led by “Office Romance” on June 5, a raunchy rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez as a high-powered CEO secretly involved with a company lawyer played by Brett Goldstein.

Netflix also offers “Voicemails for Isabelle” on June 19, a rom-com starring Zoey Deutch as a woman whose confessional voicemails to her deceased sister are accidentally redirected to a stranger.

Comcast’s (CMCSA) Peacock rounds out the month with Spanish-language World Cup coverage, a full Major League Baseball slate, the men’s U.S. Open starting June 18, and reality staples including “Love Island USA” and “Summer House.”
