White House Forces Guilfoyle Out As Ambassador To Greece Over Misconduct Allegations

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, has been asked to resign by the White House following mounting allegations of improper and potentially illegal conduct.

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the decision publicly, stating, “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign.”

Zacharia also offered a note of goodwill, adding, “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”

The 57-year-old Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., has faced a cascade of serious accusations during her tenure in Athens.

Among the allegations, she is accused of seeking money in exchange for access to senior administration officials before her Senate confirmation hearing in 2025.

A Trump donor named Eric Deters came forward this month claiming Guilfoyle asked him to pay her outstanding $100,000 American Express bill ahead of her confirmation in exchange for access to top White House figures.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that Guilfoyle instructed Deters to pay the $100,000 credit card bill via wire transfer specifically to avoid creating a paper trail.

Guilfoyle’s lawyers have pushed back firmly, saying the money she sought from Deters was payment for public appearances and speaking engagements that predated her ambassadorial nomination.

Lawyers for Guilfoyle also denied allegations related to her travel, saying she fully complied with federal gift and reporting requirements throughout her tenure.

She also faced scrutiny after the Wall Street Journal reported in September on her persistent promotion of a Greek energy company connected to U.S. efforts to route American natural gas from Greece to Ukraine.

A lobbyist tied to that Greek energy company reportedly accompanied Guilfoyle to high-level energy meetings without publicly disclosing his connections to the firm.

Guilfoyle has been under investigation by the State Department’s Inspector General’s Office, according to two people familiar with the matter who confirmed the probe to NBC News last week.

The allegations have drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle, putting added pressure on the White House to act decisively.

Trump appointed Guilfoyle to the ambassadorial post early in his administration, shortly after she and Donald Trump Jr. ended their long-running relationship.

Prior to her diplomatic role, Guilfoyle served as a close advisor to President Trump and was a prominent figure at Fox News for many years.
