D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) Lands AT&T Expansion As Enterprise Quantum Computing Gains Real Traction

D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) secured a significant commercial milestone after AT&T expanded its use of the company’s quantum computing technology across multiple network operations workflows.

AT&T reported cutting a key network optimization workload from approximately one hour to less than 15 seconds using D-Wave’s annealing-based system, a performance gain that is hard to ignore.

The development followed D-Wave’s addition to the NASDAQ Composite Index, a combination of events that has helped sharpen investor focus on the company’s commercial progress.

To own D-Wave Quantum stock, investors must believe that annealing-based quantum systems can move from eye-catching proofs of concept to repeatable, scaled commercial workloads while the company narrows steep losses.

The AT&T agreement stands out because it pairs a brand-name enterprise customer with a clear, measurable optimization win that demonstrates real-world applicability.

If AT&T broadens use of D-Wave’s annealing solutions across outage detection, routing, build planning, and traffic management, it could reinforce the broader thesis around telecom adoption of quantum computing.

Such expansion could gradually reduce D-Wave’s reliance on large, lumpy system sales by deepening its Quantum Computing as a Service, or QCaaS, revenue base over time.

Despite the progress, investors should still weigh how dependent D-Wave remains on a handful of large contracts and whether operating losses continue to widen as the business scales.

D-Wave Quantum’s financial narrative projects $173.5 million in revenue and $21.0 million in earnings by 2029, requiring 140.7% yearly revenue growth and a $389.0 million earnings increase from negative $368.0 million today.

Some of the most optimistic analysts were modeling revenue climbing toward approximately $210.1 million with future earnings of roughly $25.4 million, a figure considerably more ambitious than consensus forecasts.

The AT&T expansion could either strengthen that bullish view or prompt investors to reconsider how quickly such ambitious targets might realistically come into focus.

QBTS shares rose 9.05% following the news, reflecting renewed market enthusiasm around the company’s growing enterprise footprint and the tangible performance metrics now attached to its flagship customer relationship.
